Excuse Me…

I couldn’t help but notice that you are in my seat.

I know your reasons…
Careless.
Busy.
Impatient.

But I know the truth…
Rebellion.
Control.
Faithlessness.

I couldn’t help but notice that you are in my seat.

And must I remind you again that you asked for this?
You asked that my will be done.
Here.
Now.
Just like in heaven…

Even gave me that seat.

You asked for more than you knew.
Called for the blessings without the Blesser.
The gifts, please, but withhold the Giver.
What’s a kingdom without a King?

I couldn’t help but notice that you are in my seat.

From it you have done quite the damage, child.
Commanding forces your too-small hands could never empower.
Your head outgrown for any crown while your feet dangle, not touching ground.
And the arms of this seat – this throne of your heart – covered in your own claw marks.

I do as I please as I sit in majesty in heavenly realms above all my creation.

Must you make me war with you for what is rightfully mine?

I couldn’t help but notice that you are in my seat.

Did you happen to notice too?

Psalm 115:3 – Matthew 6:10 – Psalm 2:4 – Isaiah 6:1-5; 37:16 – Psalm 123:1

Reposted with edits from earlier. This poem written a while back came to mind over the last two weeks as I preached a series on the throne of God called “Seated.”
